Red, White and Blueberries.

Happy Fourth of July!  We are having hot weather and so today will be perfect parade and barbeque weather.  Usually in the Seattle area we joke that summer starts July 5th because it's so cool and wet in June.  This year has been much different.  It's felt like summer for a couple of months already.  I've read that we are actually in a drought now.  Hard to believe after the fall and winter we had.  Hopefully people will be responsible with their fireworks.  The fire departments are concerned about fire danger with all of the dry, hot weather we've had in most of Western Washington including the suburbs.
Here's a little red, white and blue for the day:

Monarda 'Jacob Cline'

Astillbe

Bachelor Buttons 'Blue Boy' (cenataurea cyanus)

Blueberry 'Duke'

We're headed to our "downtown" for a parade and then home for a barbeque with my sister and her family.
Have a safe and fun weekend!

  5. Your season is way ahead or ours. I can't imagine a drought out there with all of the moisture that you get regularly. My brother was stationed in the Seattle area in the seventies and as a kid I remember all the beautiful roses out there and the frequent rains. There were flower gardens everywhere. I had blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Your's look better than the ones at Ihop

  6. Hi Catherine~~ I have to admit that my mouth started watering at the sight of those blueberries. (I'm still waiting on mine.) They look so plump and delicious. Monarda is such a stately flower. What a gorgeous photo! And the sunlight on the bachelor buttons--an amazing cooling effect. Perfect for today!

I haven't heard the dreaded "drought" here yet but I would love a day, just one day, of nice warm rain. High of 68 degrees. I don't ask for much. :)

  9. It was perfect - you even had blue. Those Bachelor Buttons are so pretty - my Grandson and I did seeds when we first moved (oldest Grandson who's 17) here and they actually came up great. I figure it had to be his green thumb cause I don't do well with seeds. They were wonderful.
I like the Monarda too - I know I've had that but don't know what ever happened to it. Hmmmmm
I just caught up on 2 other posts cause I'm soooo far behind. Tell Sweet Pea her peas are perfect! Her whole square foot garden looks great!
You guys have a super 4th.

  12. Happy 4th to you! I love your red, white and blue! My blueberries must be behind yours cuz mine didn't have a lick of blue on them yet.
Our family and friends joined us here for swimming, BBQ, fireworks (yes, we can legally do that where we live), so we had a great day and evening. I'm still hearing fireworks outside...oh my...
How was the parade you went to? BBQ on a day like today can't be beat! Hope yours went well too!

  15. We had a great time yesterday. The parade was a very small town type. My husband bbq'd for us and we heard fireworks until late into the night.
