Magical morning in the garden.

Do you ever look outside your window and feel like you see magic in your garden?  This morning that's how it felt when I first looked outside.  It was so alive in the garden that I found myself tiptoeing across the gravel path in my pajamas to see what it looked like up close.  I could smell the Daphne 'Summer Ice' blooms as soon as I opened the door.

There were families of Chickadees, Nuthatches and a flock of Bushtits flying throughout the yard.

The fish were entertaining to watch as they all swarmed around floating Water Hyacinth trying to eat the algae on the roots.  Water lily buds are getting fatter and closer to  opening.

The Daylilies behind the waterfall have buds.  The Fuchsias and Oakleaf Hydrangeas are just starting to bloom.

A fairy was dancing in the waterfall!

Everything looked taller and brighter in the morning fog.

More Chickadees came to visit while Clematis 'Alionushka' blooms around the feeder.

The shed garden looks nice since it's recovered from the heat.  I plan to do a little rearranging here.  I found a beautiful deciduous Azalea 'Pink and Sweet' with the most delicious smelling blooms!  It's foliage will turn red in the fall and it only gets to about 3 feet tall.

A sign my husband bought for my birthday.  He knows there is something magical about how the garden transforms me from a stressed out person to a happy and relaxed one.

Tiger Lilies have lots of buds.  These are one of the flowers that I've been anxious to see in bloom.  I've become so attracted to orange flowers over the past year.

The Rose of Sharon tree with Daylilies 'Pandora's Box' below.  I can't wait until it all fills out.

I hope you all had a chance to feel a little magic in your gardens this weekend!

  2. Wow, everything is so bright and colorful -- it looks great!! I love the star on your garden shed. Isn't it fun to add a little somethin' here and there to add to the "magic of the dirt"?

  5. What a beautiful morning in your garden. As you gave the tour, I could hear you whispering and tip-toing around so as to not spoil the magical moment. So pretty.

  6. Early morning is absolutely my favorite time in the garden, if only the office didn't intervene 5 days a week..

  7. It's all very pretty! I love the blue delphiniums in the background of some of the shots. I'm cursing my lack of staking this year, as mine are falling all over. I'm going to take some out so I can take better care of the few that remain. Can't get rid of them all, though, as I just love them.
I understand your attraction to orange - I think because I see how pretty it is on other blogs, I am more and more interested in that color, too.

  11. Catherine, Is there any wonder that it would be a magical, popular-with-the-birds-and-wildlife area at your place? I'd want to be out there, too! :-) Enjoy! Enjoy!

  14. Catherine, the sign your hubby got you is just perfect! Fog on a summer morning is magic, there is a little electricity in the mist and the colors of flowers pop out against the gray-white back drop :)

  15. You have lots if interest all around your garden. The birds seem to be appreciating the birdbath. It's great what a little water will do to bring them in. The blue larkspur makes a good backdrop to the pond. I used to grow them, and loved the beautiful colours at eye height.

Talking about heat, we've had temperatures between 90 and 95 degrees this weekend and it's a bit wormer than we're used to =) But I don't complain, I prefere that instead of rain (and winter, brrr) / gittan

I think husbands "know" we need our gardens and lots of wonderful bits and pieces that truly transforms our gardens into that magical place for us .. of course your pond gets to me .. it is beautiful .. maybe my Ernie and Bert might have had a better chance surviving that nasty raccoon in a larger one like that ;-)
All of your plants are looking wonderful .. this heat wave is still ponding us though .. phew !

Do you ever get raccoons? A friend of mine finally gave up on fish after the coons ate them all.

  23. Your garden does look magical. I had that same feeling this morning. The fog was very thick and the bright colored flowers were a beautiful contrast in the misty light. I really hated to have to go to work and not spend time outside.

  26. Catherine, everything seems to have popped in your garden. Be glad that your temps are not too hot. I hate what the overly hot weather does to the plants.

    Your pond is magical.

  27. What a strange day yesterday was, it was like two seasons in one. Morning was early spring, and afternoon suddenly turned into mid-summer!

I love your little garden sign that your husband bought for you. I have one that my son bought that says Beware of Attack Gardener! My husband has been witness to the soothing effect the garden has on me too. Once all the construction was done, and I finally had a chance to get out and plant things, my husband said he kept looking out the window watching me, because he could "see the happy" in my body.

That is a sweet little fairy statue! And you always get such wonderful photos of the birds that visit your garden. How do you do that without scaring them away?

Your pond looks so lush - puts mine to shame but I'm soon going to go back and read your posts you did every month on your pond as I really need some inspiration and I know you're the person to give me some.

Have a lovely week and I hope the sun shines on the garden all day every day to encourage those day lillies into bloom - mine are out in flower here in Scotland.

  48. I just discovered gardening blogs! And I clicked wa state and found your nice blog zone 8. I am wa zone 7. Your garden is lovely. We have a large yard and it is getting harder to keep prestine as we get older. Our yard is a Wild life Habitat reg. We have 3 humming birds that live here yr. round. Snow or ice they are at our window feeders. This winter we got the snow and ice. So we finally got smart and brought the feeders in at night and in the morning put them out again. They have their times they come to the feeders @ day. We also have a pond, we used a preformed pond and used a whiskey barrel for the fountain flow. I was over in Rosalyn one summer and saw this lovely flower this woman had. I asked her what it was and she did not know but grabbed a shovel and preceeded to dig up a chunk for me. After many months of search and nurseries I found the name of the plant. Veronicastram. It if about 5 1/2 ft. tall dies down during the winter and deep pink blosoms all the way up the stems, beautiful! Thats again for your pictures of your garden and pond.
