Painting and raining.
We've been quite busy finishing up painting the garden shed. My husband built a little "deck" for the front of it and I can't wait to show pictures of the whole thing finished. Unfortunately the weather for the last week or so hasn't been too cooperative with getting the painting finished. I realize as I've been up on the ladder in the cold weather between rain and wind how much I really don't enjoy painting, to me it's right up there with ironing. I'm sure it's possible that if the weather was sunny and warm it wouldn't seem quite as bad. But while outside doing what to me is a monotonous job I took a few minutes here and there to admire the view from on top of the ladder and to realize that a pair of Chickadees seemed to have picked the pond birdhouse to build a nest in.

My girls are out on Spring Break this week so between finishing painting and having some fun with them I won't be around a whole lot to visit other blogs, but I will try to catch up as soon as I can. I'm anxious to see what the weather is like other places (hopefully better than ours), what projects everyone has been up to and what has started blooming.

It is all so beautiful. I won't see my tulips for a few weeks. Your pond looks really good and birds in the birdhouse, that is great!

Everything looks beautiful around the pond Catherine. I love tulips and the heuchera is so bright. Can't wait to see your finished garden shed. Hope you and the girls have a wonderful spring break. The last few days, we have had warm sun and lots of blooms are popping out!

Your garden looks so lovely. I can sympathize with the rain. It's been rather soggy here for most of the last week. It's looking up though, and we should see some warm sunshine soon!

It all looks lovely. I can understand how painting would not be enjoyable in the cold and the rain. We could actually use a little rain here at the moment. We haven't had any in over a week and the weatherman keeps teasing us with a 40% chance, only to have it stay north of here.

I suppose we had it coming considering the wonderful weather we had been getting. sigh. Your tulips are lovely. This is the first time I think I have seen your pond bird house. It's wonderful and so perfect that you have chickadees nesting. Last year we were blessed with green violet swallows nesting in the garage roof. That's made me feel like our garden had been nature approved. It must have been a wonderful treat to see those chickadees nesting in your garden. :-)

ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, I'd rather IRON than paint. I love the results of painting but I'm really messy and I don't relish the task itself or the clean up.
I'm sorry your schools chose this week for spring break with such sucky weather. But I'm sure you'll have fun.
Dear Catherine, Painting is a very tedious chore but it does have its rewards - in this instance the view from the top of the ladder where your pond garden is looking simply wonderful. And I do agree, the combination of tulip and Heuchera is superb.

ReplyDeleteAlison - That vine on the birdhouse post is Clematis 'Ville de Lyon'. It's one of my favorites and grows like crazy every year.
What wonderful colours! This is what I noticed in the Pacific West gardens that I visited. Although our climates are identical, you have so much more light because you are at a lower lattitude. London is probably at the same latitude as Alaska! but warmed by the gulf stream.

ReplyDeleteThe planting .. well I think we do a lot of it subconciously (spelling .. early morning more coffee NEEDED!) .. I know I have grouped plants together that I thought I didn't really "plan" but they were perfect .. it is the innate gardener taking over ? LOL
We have shifted from sunny and hot to cloudy and rain almost ? it is coming ! LOL

I can't believe I never noticed that tall birdhouse at the base of your pond. Maybe just never saw it all in one shot. My little chickadees keep chasing wasps away when they fly anywhere near their nest house. It's so funny to watch a little bird chase a wasp! I see your NWF sign on the fence. Proud like me, I'm sure, to be able to display it. Have a good week with the kids!

Your garden looks lovely! As for painting, I actually like it, especially if I can use lots of color. But then, I suppose that's because I'm an artist who paints and applying color is what it's all about. Of course the best part is standing back and enjoying your work when you're done. Which you'll be able to do as soon as the shed is all done!

ReplyDeleteBack again. Thought about you yesterday when Phillip and I were out in the backyard. We looked up and saw a pileated woodpecker high up in the tree. We barely got a look and it took off.
