Thankful.

I'm one of those people who peeks out the curtain every morning to see what the weather is like. Lately it's been the same thing every morning, rainy and dark. What a beautiful surprise I had this morning when I looked out and saw the pink skies from the sunrise.

The sun cast a pink glow over everything.

I loved how it illuminated the trees from behind.

It was difficult to capture Mt. Rainier during the sunrise because of the lighting, but the lower foothills of the Cascades were visible.

It's always surprising how fast the sky changes while the sun is rising. I stood in the front yard to soak in the pink glow, it was amazing.

About 2 hours later you could see all the snow on Mt. Rainier. Just breathtaking!

How thankful I am to be able to take the time to enjoy this beauty!

It was never completely clear of clouds this morning, but it was bright and dry. So bright that the Littlest Gardener brought me her bathing suit to put on her and was quite upset that it wasn't as warm as it looked.
I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving that will be celebrating tomorrow. We'll not only be celebrating Thanksgiving, but my nephew's first birthday. I am so lucky that my whole family will be there, including my sister and her family from Idaho.

  10. What beautiful colorful pictures you got. We sure miss getting colorful skies up here in the woods - but the stars at night are great! Mt. Rainier sure popped out and it's huge from your view. I don't know why I didn't take a picture of it yesterday when shooting Mt. St. Helens and the Cascades with the sun shining on them. I can see them both from the same place.
Have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy that 1st birthday with your nephew - ya only see that once!

  14. I'm a peaker-out-of-windows too, and that beautiful pink and blue sky was what I saw first thing this morning too, when I got up to drive DH to the train station. I almost grabbed my camera to take some pics, but I knew I couldn't do justice to the beauty of the sky and the snow on Rainier. But you did, you take such gorgeous photos! I live on one of the ridges south of Seattle, and the valley down below was full of fog this morning, it looked like a lake, with the ridges poking up like islands.

I'm so glad you took pictures of this beautiful morning, and so glad you posted them!

  15. Your photo caught my eye in my sidebar. Our sunset this evening was pink like your sunrise. I took a bunch of photos. Yours are gorgeous! I think the 4th and 5th are my favorites. I like the close up of the leaves in the 4th, and the mountain in the 5th. That made me shiver, though, because I got cold all the way through from taking photos, and haven't warmed up yet, even with a blanket around my shoulders.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.

  19. Hello Catherine,

What a beautiful way to begin your day. Because our climates are such opposites, we get excited when we wake up to a cloudy day.

I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow with your family.

  28. I haven't been to Washington state since 1966. We were visiting my brother who was stationed out there. You are so deserving of such beautiful sights like this as you do get a lot of rain. Beautiful photos. Enjoy the family.

  29. Terrific sunrise photos Catherine. I open my eyes and look around to see how bright the room is ~ if it's pretty light, I get excited too (thinking the sun is up). If it's dark and dreary, I lay there a bit longer. How lucky you are to have birthday cake on Thanksgiving ~ that's better than pumpkin pie in my book! I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family.

  30. What beautiful sunrises, and an amazing mountain! My geography is virtually non-existent, and if someone had asked me where Mt Rainier is, I'd have probably said Switzerland! Lucky you to have a view of such a mountain!
