Here's what's blooming now. Most are looking a bit weathered but at least they are blooming at all.
Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue' still has quite a few buds on this plant. This is the only one blooming and probably the latest I remember having them in bloom.
Hydrangea 'Endless Summer' had one last fresh bloom, although I think the freezing temperatures the other night made the petals very transparent looking.
Penstemon 'Raven' as well as a few other Penstemons are blooming or have buds on them.

Ladies Mantle (Alchemilla mollis) for some strange reason is blooming. This is the only one in bloom though.
The unknown pink rose has it's final bloom. Other roses with buds are: 'Kimberlina', 'Iceberg' and the Flower Carpet rose. I'm crossing my fingers they get a chance to bloom.
This Dahlia looked great the day before the freeze, now it's looking a little disheveled.
Another Dahlia that still is doing pretty good, several open flowers on this one too. There a couple other Dahlias finishing up blooming too.

Also in bloom are the hardy Fuchsias, Abelias, a few Red Valerian (Centranthus ruber), Snapdragons, Water Hawthorn and a few geraniums. I've also got buds on at least one of the Hellebores (H. orientalis) which don't usually bloom for another couple of months.

Catherine,
ReplyDeleteI am always a fan of those pansies and violas, they are the most hardy for me. I have some violas out there under the snow.
Your Dahlias and roses are just glorious.
Thanks for the nice comments you leave on my blog.

So much colour in the garden this time of year, mainly from foliage but you have found a great selection of plants in flower. I might add that the ivy is just about still in flower here and the very late bees and insects are all over it. In a few weeks it will have lovely black berries just ready for my Winter table decoration!
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine~~ Ah the sign of a true hort-a-holic, flowers in bloom every month of the year! Do you have Sarcococa ruscifolia or Sweet Box? If the winter is typical mine will start blooming the first of January and go until March. The flowers are nothing special but the fragrance is delicious.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful shot of the Scabiosa and dahlias. The pansies are posed very sweetly with the purple/yellow one shyly peaking out. Love the raindrop about to let go of the Penstemon bud. Aren't we lucky that we can grow hardy fuchsias? They are such work horses, blooming nonstop!
I am just betting you'll find blooms next month then you will have blooms all year! That was always a goal for me and a nice thing if you can pull it off-and I think you can.
ReplyDeleteCatherine you still have a lot going. Looks good but like you said about the freeze - they could be done now. I'm anxious to see if you can have something blooming all year. When we first moved here I was going to do a Heather garden cause you can have some blooming every month but I killed a few and lost interest in that plan. ;-) We had a freeze the other night down here too and I forgot to have Bob take the Begonias into the greenhouse and dig up my annual Penstemon I'm going to try and keep. They may still be ok as the Begonias are by the front porch close to the house. I'd take them up myself but afraid to go outside and have another relapse from overdoing.
ReplyDeleteHey Catherine, Amazing that you have so many blooms still. You have the prettiest dahlias of anyone. I have very good luck with violas here. Deer eat the pansies. I hope the week ahead will be a good one for you.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post! Isnt that so amazing how your Lady's Mantle is still blooming and going strong! What a spirited plant!! Lovely!I love those pleasant surprises!
ReplyDeleteHello Catherine, I love how you still have so many blooms right now. Penstemon is beautiful and the roses are doing pretty well too, and pansies and violas, well, they love fall season.
ReplyDeleteMuchos cariños

I'm willing to bet the farm that you'll at least have pansies and snapdragons blooming in December. I especially like your Scabiosa "Butterfly Blue".....looks purple to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat blooms Catherine, I did find a few still hanging on in my garden, love seeing yours! (especially the hydrangea)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures! And you still have quite a few flowers in your garden. Funny to read that in your garden the Alchemilla is also flowering, and that the Hellebore already has a flower bud. In my garden it is exactly the samen... even though we are thousands of miles apart! (I'm in The Netherlands). It's a small world for us gardeners.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! The pink dahlia is stunning :-)
ReplyDeleteI've just planted my dragon fruit cuttings. Fingers crossed they bloom into fruiting trees soon!
Catherine if you find something blooming in your garden in December I am going to drive over there and take a picture of it myself! LOL
ReplyDeleteLast December the only thing blooming in my garden was three feet of snow.
What a gorgeous shot of the Scabiosa! It's been a strange year here in CT for plants blooming out of season - just like your lady's mantle. Always interesting to walk around the garden and take a good look at exactly what's going on - it's never quite as expected. One of the joys of gardening :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will have a few blooms to post in December. I love the pansies & scabiosa. I have a little trouble with mildew on scabiosa here.
ReplyDeleteHappy GBBD Catherine :-D
ReplyDeleteLove to see another posting with scabious and I see your raven penstemon still has buds. Mine are gone now but Etna is still flowering well.
Almost a year posting for GBBD day... excellent. Now next year yu'll be able to compare months! Remember if you are stuck for December blooms you can also include house blooms too :-D
I covet your dahlias. They are beautiful. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are hanging in there. The pansy plants are great. They sell them pre spring around here and late fall as they do tolerate a lot of cold before they die. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of lovely blooms for this late in the year! I love the pansies and pink dahlia.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of the scabiosa Catherine. For me, it stays evergreen and blooms off and on thru out winter.
ReplyDeleteI must admit I am pretty smitten with your Penstemon. Very pretty and so nice to see someone still has beautiful blooms to look at!
ReplyDeleteHello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteYou always have so many flowering plants. I am sure you will have a lot of different flowers to show us next month.
I love your hydrangeas!
I wish my Scabiosa was still going. It seems to have died back considerably. Maybe because it was new this summer? Maybe it will hang around longer next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to bet money that you have something blooming all twelve months! Your garden always amazes me and this bloom day is no exception. That last photo of the pink dahlia is just fabulous.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks for the pond tips ~ on overwintering the water lilies. I think I'll leave mine alone too. I have a thermometer in the water ~ I'm surprised at what it reads (its been in the high 40's) but it still seems cold. I took my filter out and replaced it with a large air stone for the winter ~ I read that was a good thing to do (since I don't have a waterfall or other moving water feature). I also purchased a de-icer so hopefully, I'm set!
Oh, those are lovely, Catherine! Especially the Dhalia. Looks like an angel! Good luck with December blooms too!
ReplyDeleteThe pansies and violas are so pretty. Pity, I can't grow them here.
ReplyDeleteI do have pansies , mums, and even roses blooming, but my Ladies' Mantle and other blooms have faded away...what a lot of blooms you do have in November!
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about November flowers is that we learn to see and appreciate the beauty in them "just as they are." Happy blooms day.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blooms - I am counting on you to have something for December. I know you can do it!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your blooms. I've grown that kind of scabiosa before, but think my ground was too wet for it to overwinter. Now, the area I have had my lady's mantle the last couple of years is probably drier than it would prefer. I haven't had many blooms so far.
ReplyDeleteIt's cool that you had something blooming each month.
You still have some 'lovlies' in your garden ... mine is sad & green. I so enjoy looking at what you share with us.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and the pansies really caught my eye. :)
ReplyDeleteCatherine, you still have quite a few beautiful blooms in your lovely garden.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty the Scabiosa is. I planted my seedlings late and only got one bloom, but the plants were healthy and grew quickly. I hope to do better next year.
I forgot to include my pansies in my Bloom Day post. They have been going all summer. Faithful little flowers :)
You have such beautiful Hydrangeas and aren't the Dahlias a delight? I'd like to try Penstemons. Yours are such a lovely color.
Happy Bloom Day!
Gosh still some lovely flowers to see how starange for Alchemila Mollis to be flowering again and i love the rain drop on the penstomen flower.
