New flowers in bloom on a sunny day.

We had a nice stretch of dry and warmer weather last week.  Everything in the garden seems to be growing twice as fast as usual, probably making up for how slow they were from the cold and wet weather we had most of this spring.  Flowers that are behind are definitely close to blooming finally.  I've seen buds on irises (fewer than last year though), roses, lupine, Hydrangeas and Persian cornflowers.  June is usually my favorite month in my garden, especially the front yard, and it looks like it'll be as pretty as usual.

Lewisia cotyledon

Woodland Phlox smells really good.  I just planted it last year and it's doing great already.

Columbine are blooming all over the place.  Most are self seeded and all look different from each other.

This Tiarella has been in my yard for years, but it had been in a dry shade bed and never did that great.  Last summer I moved it to a front bed which is shady and the soil never dries, looks like it loves those conditions.

The Pink Flowering Dogwood blooming a month late with far fewer flowers than last year.  It still looks very pretty though.  The Dogwood in my backyard had no blooms at all this year.

Deutzia 'Pink Minor' is covered in flowers.

Alliums are just starting to pop open.

The new Clematis in a front container is so pretty, it's difficult to see the shades of pink in the picture.

Over the weekend we planted the plants that I had started from seed months ago.  So far everything looks good even though it's still cool at night.  I couldn't take looking at them withering away under the grow lights.  Looks like we'll have rain off and on this week, but the temperatures are supposed to stay in the 60's at least.
Thanks for all your kind words about Linda on the previous post!  She will be missed by many of us out in here in the blogosphere as well as by her family and friends.

  2. Beautiful blooms Catherine. I've been noticing all the allium in the many gardens. This is one plant I must have next year. I already have my next spring list going.

  4. Everything is so bright and fresh, that's one of the perks from this late spring.

I love the Lewisia, can't wait until mine blooms, I don't know what color it is yet....just got it.

A woodland phlox, do you know what zone it is [crossing fingers] I must put one on my list for our next garden, which is zone 5 maybe?

  5. Despite all the drizzle everything is bone dry up here and already needs attention from the irrigation system. Hard to believe!
We had a pretty dry weekend, but have yet to see sunshine.

  8. Jen - It looks like the Woodland Phlox is hardy in zones 3 - 8, so it should work for you.

  9. Wow, Catherine, you have so many different plants blooming right now. It looks like they are making up for the delay this spring. My favorites are the tiarealla, allium, and the beautiful clematis. I am always so impressed by the variety of plants that you are growing in your garden and feel inspired to aim for more plant diversity myself in my own yard. Thanks!

  10. Love your new Clemmy. And that Deutsia is to die for. I'm hoping at least it will stay moderately warm this week even if we have to have rain. Fingers crossed for all your newly planted goodies.

Such a contrast from the way it looks in the heart of winter compared with right now! You must be feeling overjoyed after all those long, cold, dark months of waiting and dreaming :) I'd spend every waking moment out there if I were you! It's just gorgeous!!!

  17. Everything looks really good Catherine. It is funny about our zones, my Purple Sensation Allium has been blooming for two weeks. But, you know how we are, have 90's for a few days then down to the 40's.

We have had more rain and my roses are covered with aphids. It's constant patrol.

  18. Catherine everything looks lovely. I love the color of your Clematis and can tell that the Alliums are going to be pretty as well..

are Alliums planted in the fall in order for them to open for the following spring? I've always liked Alliums but never got around to planting any.

  19. So glad the weather is cooperating for you. Such a cold and soggy start to spring this year. I have some wildflowers blooming together here, that shouldn't normally! Your dogwood is still beautiful. I wish I could have one here...darned deer.

  21. Hi Catherine, I really like your Tiarella :) It would be quite a stand out in a shade garden. Your gardens look very cheerful in the, the dose of vitamin D was good for all of us I think. Your new clematis looks like one I had Grace help me identify in my garden on my past post. Such a pretty color! I did order your recommended Jackamani?sp..but it won't arrive until fall. Have a great week!
