Our newest members of the family.

This was the perfect weekend to add new members to our family.  Not only am I a mom to my kids, but a mom to our pets as well.  As many of you know our pet rabbit Cookie died unexpectantly about a month ago.  The girls were very sad and still talk about how much they miss him.  Sweet Pea decided she wanted another Holland Lop, so we were able to find a breeder and just picked him up early this morning.

This is Blackthorn the Holland Lop.  The breeder named him after a spring blooming flower, I looked it up and it's in the Prunus family.  Sweet Pea liked his name and is keeping it.

He was so happy to have so much open space to run and hop in.  His one ear likes to stand up, I think it gives him character.

Over the winter we lost quite a few fish for some reason.  My friend that lives nearby also lost most of their fish this winter.  Today we bought 4 new fish.  We found these koi at the local pet store, they were very inexpensive ($3 - $5 each).  These are the two the girls picked out.

I chose these two yellow ones.  The one on the right is a butterfly, but I think the other one is too although it was in a tank with just regular koi.  I chose them for their beautiful colors.  For some reason I love yellow fish.

Hopefully they'll like their new home.  There are only about 4 or so other fish in there now and maybe a couple of tiny babies that we had seen a month ago.

Hope you all get a chance to work in your garden this weekend, the sun is trying to come out here.  Happy Mother's Day!

Your pond is looking lovely as usual. I had a big party for my family so I spent the last two days planting like crazy.

Love the yellow Koi! I haven't ever seen them in that color?? Last year I found some silver butterfly Koi and I bought one but not anything as beautiful as you found. Wonder what happened to your fish over the winter?

  37. That is the cutest bunny! How sweet. He will love hopping around that beautiful garden of yours.

Yes, I did get to work outside yesterday. It was beautifulband I spent it talking to my daughter and planting a bunch of plants in the new border that my husband tilled up for me about a week ago. It was great and it's supposed to be good for the next couple of days. I hope you are able to get out and enjoy it.
Congrats on the new bunny and fish.

  38. The bunny is exceptionally exceptional!

I recently found your blog and am so enjoying looking at photos of all you've done. I recently moved to WA from CA and have the largest piece of property I've ever had. One day I want most of my yard to look like your shed garden. :-) I love that informal mix of colors and textures. I planted a few trees and plants this week, bought many plants, moved about 20 cubic feet of quality soil from the car to the backyard, set up a flower bed bordered by large sandstone rocks and a cedar raised bed for vegetables. All by myself (well, my dogs supervised). And I'm still standing, haha. Looking forward to reading more.

  43. He's so cute! I like his ear standing up like that...
We also had to get a new rabbit in januari since Bumbi left us after only two months. Now we have the cutest little rabbit boy (all the other rabbits have been girls) called Abbe. He's got a bit of lion-rabbit in the blood so he's got like a lion's main around his neck.

  44. Oh gosh, what a darling, darling little lop. Wonderful, and speaking of wonderful, your pond is magnificent.

I have pond envy. We don't have space here for a pond, but Jeff and I are looking around at what we can move,
dislodge, dig, etc. for a pond. Do you get full sunlight all day on it?

    Sending love across the miles,

  46. Catherine, I had a black lop in college. One ear always stood upright and for a bit it seemed to cause a few problems with his balance. I called the vet and was told that this was not unusual and that eventually his ear would balance out with the other one. Have to say he was so cute with the ear that stuck up like a feather. You newest family member is a cutie too!

  47. Blackthorn's ear is still sticking up, I kind of hope it stays that way :)

Sharon - Our pond is sun for most of the day. The corner by waterfall does get some afternoon shade. I hope you can make space for one, I love having it.
