"I'm just going out to water."

That's what I said I was going to do, at least. Yesterday was a perfect fall day to garden. Blue skies and temperatures in the low 60's is about as good as it gets for me to work outside. I really did plan to just water some of my newly planted things but continued to find more to do. Some of them I'd been putting off for awhile and was happy to get them checked off the list.

I cleaned out the window boxes and planted Pansies, although not these particular ones. This is 'Lemon Fizzleberry', it was too cute not to post a picture of. The light was too bright to get a good picture of the window box Pansies, I'll save them for another day.

Netted out the pond. The Pine and Cedar trees are dropping needles like crazy into it. Over the weekend I cleaned out the pump, another job I'd been putting off.

Got distracted by the flowers. Fuchsia magellanica growing by the pond still had lots of bees visiting it.

Divided and potted up Moonbeam Coreopsis, Pulmonaria and Linaria.

I found that the leaves left on the Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum) are beginning to change colors while I was untangling Pine needles from the plants.

Weeded and swept the path, again...

Cleaned more pine needles from the flower beds,

and cleaned and filled the birdbaths.

And I even watered the plants that I originally went out to water!

  1. Isn't it funny how what you originally go outside to do turns into 50 other things to do. Your gardens look beautiful as usual. I bought a flat of 36 purple pansies today and some more petunias....

  4. Nice work you've done by cleaning all those pine needles away. The temperature is about the same as here and both today and yesterday we've had sun again after a couple of rainy days. We sure needed that rain but I prefere the suuny days specially this time of year. Hope the whole week will be as lovely as these last days for us all / gittan

  5. Boy do I have this problem... I can never go out in the garden and do just one thing. It makes hubby crazy because I seem to get lost out there. Sometimes I purposely won't go out even though I know I should because I know I can't stop myself. Maybe we start a support group for this. LOL -Jackie

  6. Fantastic photos and I agree that the pansy picture is terrific. I'm in the same weather as you right now and it is so easy to find yourself five hours later wondering what just happened? "I only meant to water a couple of plants." Your garden does look wonderful indeed. I took note of your lily pads because I have lost sight of mine. The hot weather made the water hyacinth take over this year and this spring like weather has them blooming again!

  7. Hi Catherine~~ You're so right. Sunny days and mild temperatures are sheer delight for garden preening. We're so lucky to have this little reprieve from the clouds.

Your pond looks crystal clear, the blue sky reflected off its surface--beautiful. Aren't hardy fuchsias just the best? They just bloom and bloom. What more could you ask for? I see you've red apples adorning your tree.

I love the pedestal on your birdbath, the vertical lines look very antique.

  8. Your whole garden is still looking great. The pond changes every time you show it, but it remains beautiful and lush as the days keep changing. I really feel good when I can work like that, as I have accomplished a lot. But I do look back and notice the things that really need to get done. We are suppose to have snow by the weekend, so I can't mess around now. It is time to get serious and do the things that really count.

  9. Oh, Catherine ~ That fuschia is breathtaking. They don't do well here, & this is one plant from WA ST that I terribly miss.

Have a beautiful relaxing day. TTFN ~Marydon

  11. Isn't that always how it happens? Yesterday was gorgeous! And I finally made it to the bulb sale, which I thought I was going to miss this year. Your garden looks lovely, as usual. With all your division you can start your own nursery. ;) Put me on the mailing list!

  12. It really is easy to get distracted out in the garden. Girl, you really were busy with all your little chores.

That pansy is one of my favorites. Unfortunately we don't have it at the nursery this year.

  16. Look at those apples! WOW!!! Everything looks great! We haven't gotten quite as cool yet. It was 82 degrees an hour or so ago. It hasn't been as hot...but still really muggy! I will be planting pansies and snapdragons soon

  18. How could you not love a pansy with that name? It makes me smile just reading it: "Lemon fizzleberry!" :-)

You sure got lots done and it shows too. I hope you're going to do a post on how you winterize your pond?? I was planning to take a class at my nursery then my daughter got sick and I missed it. Now I'm starting to stress because I want my fish to survive the winter. I know our zones are different but at least it will give me an idea....

  19. It is still a little too early to plant pansies here, but I can't wait. They are my favorite flower, and your photo certainly shows a wonderful one.

  20. I love all your photos! Your pond looks like such a magical peaceful place, would love to sit there and get lost in time. The pansy is adorable! I kind of like when I lose track of time in the garden, hope you enjoyed your time there! You did a great job!

  21. What a lot of work you have done! Your pansies are lovely. They don't grow here unless kept in a 'cool house'.

  22. We have tried some of the apples and they've been good. Unfortunately quite a few have worms in them.

Melanthia - I'll be glad to share! We'll have to get together again with the little ones.

Kathleen - I'll work on a post on how I winterize my pond. I'm pretty lucky that there isn't much I have to do here because it doesn't get that cold here.

  23. LOL. I do the same thing just running out in slippers to throw out the garbage. It is so easy to get sidetracked out doors, especially when the sun is shining so pretty.
We are in wind chill deep freeze mode here today.
