In order to get a picture of the top of the tree I actually had to go to the front yard to take the picture. You can see just how tall this unknown Japanese Maple is here. Our home is a one story and the tree goes far above the roof line. I think because this part of the tree gets the most sun the top leaves turn this beautiful orange color. The bright red leaves to the left are from Japanese Maple 'Orido Nishiki'.
I was able to get most of the tree in this picture in the backyard. It practically glows with all the golden leaves.
The trunks and branches of this tree are covered in lichen and moss which adds to its beauty. The leaves on this part of the tree are a rusty yellow.
And now the leaves are slowly falling to reveal the first blue sky I've seen here in days. Soon our deck will be covered in leaves, and the sweeping and raking will begin.

Wow, those are gorgeous trees. Yes, fall color (much like spring blossoms) only lasts a short time, but I think that's what makes it so special! I love fall!
ReplyDeleteGlowing is the right word for your awesome Japanese maples! They are my favorite small tree and I am always so impressed by big ones like you have. You are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteI, like Tina, love Japanese Maples. They bring such beauty and color in such small form. You pics are simply breath taking...
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. My Japanese maple leaves turn brown then fall off. That's a beautiful tree.
ReplyDeleteHow very beautiful and colorful Catherine. We had heavy downpours of rain yesterday and the leaves are stuck to the drive and our deck - what a mess! I'm hoping for some wind to dry everything out!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous! I wish our colors looked that clean.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning display of fall colors Catherine!! (Leaf Blower)
ReplyDeleteWow, Catherine! You waited until the perfect time for this post!! The color is So breathtakingly beautiful!! :-) Thank you! Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos Catherine, those Japanese Maples are just incredible.
ReplyDeleteI'M IN LOVE! I would do anything to have a tree like that in my garden! You are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, what amazing show of color. That is beautiful.

Pictures like this just break my heart with joy. I love our Northwest trees in all their stages but this one is the most glorious. You have some stunning beauty in your garden Catherine, just stunning!
ReplyDeleteSPECTACULAR Chaterine!!!
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that they are very old Japanese Maples, aren´t they?
Maybe not, I say this becuase my trees are not that tall after 10 years old.

Wow, aren't Maple trees so pretty in the Fall. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteSuch intense colour! Im so jealous-Japanese maples will not withstand our easterly winds here in the winter-they just scorch and burn, then die .But Im so grateful to be able to see your wonderful foliage. Marvellous pictures Catherine.
ReplyDeleteYour yard is gorgeous with all the fall colors. Beautiful pictures! They are pretty enough to be framed to show off somewhere!
ReplyDeleteThose leaves are fantastic! I wish we had a tree or two like those in our yard. Most of ours are very young. Thanks for joining in the Fall Color Project! I'll be posting today's participants tonight.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that you Japanese Maples are that big! Just beautiful. Not quite fall in S. CA, although it was cool enough today....maybe the trees will start to change.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful fall colors right there in your yard. Our trees are pretty small yet, but I still love the little spots of fall color they provide. You're right, that hike was a bit scary, but exhilerating. That's why we were so proud of ourselves, not to mention us being over 50 and hubby just having heart surgery three months ago!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful colors Catherine. I love the last picture with that gold against the blue sky.
ReplyDeleteFall colors are in full swing in your area and your yard. I don't know why your tree changed colors in sections. That's interesting. I love your photos!
ReplyDeleteI've been noticing different plants are at their peaks at different times, and have been taking photos on different days. At some point, I need to go ahead and do a post. I don't think I participated last year.
Amazingly beautiful fall color. My favorite is the third picture. All are beautiful but that one to me is especially gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine~~ I love the blue sky behind the golden foliage and jet-black branches. I'll have to observe mine a little closer to see if they're coloring varies. I find Japanese maple leaves so much easier to clean up than my Sweet Gum leaves. Let the raking begin... soon anyway.
ReplyDeleteOh Catherine....
ReplyDeleteI have always loved Japanese Maples and your is so beautiful! Since we cannot grow them here, I will just enjoy yours :)
Amazing tree, very nice photos. Wish I could have one of them...
ReplyDeleteJapanese Maple is one of my favorite trees. And this is only because of the colours of the leaves, not only in autumn, but all year.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!
Wonderful photos Catherine! It must be lovely to be able to stand under these glorious trees and also to look out of the windows and see them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree! I love the fall colors, they make the impending winter seem so worth it~
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree, and what beautiful pictures! We don't have such trees here- all are green in all seasons.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!!! I miss seeing all the beautiful fall trees. Your photos are great. We used to live in Puyallup, WA and my husband worked in Olympia. I do miss the lush green landscaping. Nice post!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tina, glowing is the right word! These photos are so "picture perfect" for fall Catherine. It looks just beautiful in your yard right now. Enjoy all the gorgeous color as long as you can.
ReplyDeleteWow, what great fall color! And your Japanese maples are so BIG. I'm glad you're getting some blue sky. Your clouds must have made their way over here. We've had a bit of snow today, though it didn't stick.
ReplyDeleteI really need to add one of them beauties to my garden if just for the gorgeous fall color show. :) The shot of the canopy from underneith is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful natural yellow with the sun shining through. Ours are almost completely gone now but I plenty more pictures to remember them by. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteYou knocked my socks off !!
ReplyDeleteJust love the bright colors.
Wish I had some in my yard...maybe next year.
what glorious color!!! you are very lucky!
ReplyDeleteHello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteI have awarded you the Scrap Blog award on my blog. I would love to have you participate, because I enjoy your blog very much. It would be great to learn more about you. If you don't want to, I understand.
Oh my word!!! If the house hadn't been so quiet I would have gasped out loud. Simply stunning!!! Bravo. Mr D is sleeping or I would have been lots more vocal.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are so very beautiful and well taken. You are a great photographer, Catherine. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThese colors just POP! It's nice to have that color in your own yard. We have lots of older trees in our yard--both front and back--and none of them were a bit eye-appealing this year. I literally had to walk around the neighborhood to see the colors. My yard doesn't get enough sun, I think, so that might be why the leaves looked really dull here. It's funny, when I walked off my property and down the street, the colors were amazing;-)
