Daphne 'Summer Ice' is re blooming. It's been blooming off and on since early spring. It smells delicious! It's an evergreen shrub and stays on the smaller side, I'd highly recommend it.
Cosmos 'Bright Lights' were free seeds that came as part of an advertisement. They've really filled in a big space. I love how they look with Rudbeckia and Red Valerian (Centranthus ruber) which are also both still blooming.
Geranium 'Wargrave Pink' has reseeded around the backyard. I cut it back in early August and it has sent up a few blooms here and there.
Scabiosa 'Pink Mist' as well as 'Butterfly Blue' have lots of new buds on them. The is the first year they haven't been covered in powdery mildew.
Zinnia 'California Giants' have so much variation in flower colors and shapes. Even on the same plant there is so much variety.
My fall planter has grown quite a bit already. Most of these should look good for several more months.
Today we're off to one of the pumpkin patches near us. There is a beautiful area nearby that has berry picking in the summer and pumpkins and corn mazes in the fall. I'm sure we'll be return home with several pumpkins to decorate our front porch.

ReplyDeleteHi Catherine - lovely post today. I love that varigated plant in the round tub ... gorgeous colours! Must get some Scabiosa!
ReplyDeleteHave agreat weekend :)
Your are having a very sunny day out there. We have had gloomy for some time but today we have fall sunlight. I have a whiter geranium like that and it is so boring compared to yours. Your Julia Child is doing very well, nice blog.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of the zinnia! I took a college course in Indoor plants many years ago. If it makes you feel any better, the instructor said she did not grow much indoors because it was too difficult to keep plants thriving. I try anyway but it is a struggle.
ReplyDeleteYou have so many plants that I have never heard of...just beautiful...be sure and show your front porch all decorated to welcome autumn.
ReplyDeleteLove the overflowing container!!! And that clematis is just so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am HORRIBLE at indoor plants! I've given up on them except for the few I have to bring inside for 2-3 months in the winter. I can barely keep those alive, if at all.
I get sick everytime I see a beautiful Josephine bloom! Your Dahlia and Scabiosa are great looking. I need to go back to spring looking at your compost post to see if the brand you use is showing! hehehe Nothing hardly reseeds around here but getting better - especially since I quit using Preen. But now I have millions of weeds and lots of weeding to do. As wonderful as it is I've heard it sterilizes the ground and ya won't have volunteers.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the pumpkin patch sounds fun! Hope you'll share lots of photos with us.
ReplyDeleteI have never been able to grow plants in pots. Yours that you feature today sure are nice. I also love the clematis flower - that's beautiful. Have fun decorating the front porch this weekend.
Beautiful, lovely and colorful flowers !! Fantastic post..Thanks for sharing..Unseen Rajasthan
ReplyDeleteThe Julia Child rose is still awesome to me. I just love it. You still have lots of blooms. You go girl. Have fun with the pumpkins and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI have just got to get one of those Julia Child roses. Every time I see yours I fall in love with it. It is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your visit to the pumkin farm. I bet it's a great family day out.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I mentioned, but I love your header pic.
I hope your outdoor plants last a good long time as they are a feast for the eyes!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Great job again.
ReplyDeleteI feel lost when I stop by your garden.
*Urban Green drops her head and scampers off. Doesn't want to get noticed among brilliant gardeners like Catherine*
Hi Catherine. Things are looking superb. Have you ever tried neem oil for powdery mildew?
ReplyDeleteYour fall container is gorgeous Catherine. Of course so are all your other plants too.
ReplyDeleteGosh so many blooms it still looks like mid summer where you are.
ReplyDeleteOh how beautiful it all is!!! Now lady...you don't have to stop linking in...you can re-post some of your favorites over the winter...or inspirations for next year...I'm not picky...I just don't want to stop seeing your pretty blooms!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was in a climate that had a longer season...it makes me so jealous to see some of the others gardening in January...when we are frozen so solid that the soil is like pavement! lol
This is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada...I wish you a happy weekend too!!!
Everything is still looking so great! You still have tons of color. Take lots of pics at the pumkpin patch for us!
ReplyDeleteThat Giant Zinnia... its like seeing a colourful pineapple perched on top of the stalk surrounded by lovely petals!!!... ~bangchik
ReplyDeletegorgeous, just gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful flowers! I love that Geranium -- with the light shining through it, it's just gorgeous. It must be wonderful to have a Daphne blooming all growing season. I love that fragrance.
ReplyDeleteWell, it so hard to know where to start. You have so many beautiful plants! I will pick out two - the yellow Cosmos, I definitely want to try. I also love the delicate color of the Scabiosa. As always, thank you so much for sharing your garden.
ReplyDeleteI don't know which flower is more different and beautiful. THose bright lights are such great flowers. You solved my mystery. I knew they were cosmos but I didn't know their whole name. I want to be sure to get more seeds for next year because they do brighten everything up! That Climatis flower is very exotic looking.
ReplyDeleteInteresting shot of your 'California Giant'. I've been on a blogging break, but glad to be back. Your garden is still so colofrul.
ReplyDeleteCatherine ~ I'm ooohing and aaahing down here, wishing I could grow those beauties that you can. I love your 'Josephine' clematis and Geranium 'Wargrave Pink'. Your colorful container is wonderful too.

Hi Catherine! I love your bright fall container. It's not as yellow/orange/brown as some of the autummn arrangements. Have a great time with pumpkins. We drove to Astoria, OR yesterday, and there were very few autumn colors on our way. I'd love to stay a bit longer in summer.
ReplyDeletemaybe us gardeners are not meant to be cooking? maybe that is the way it is supposed to be?
ReplyDeleteI hate to cook, love to clean, hate dirt...but can't stay away from garden soil! lol
hope you have a good weekend!
I don't do so well with houseplants, either. My main problem is keeping them watered.
ReplyDeleteYou have some good looking blooms still. I love that Josephine clematis. It reminds me of the new one I got last year.
I never heard how much snow we got, but it did seem like a lot for this time of year. I'm glad it melted in the street.
Geez, is it spring of fall where you are?
ReplyDeleteYes, I can just smell that daphne through the screen...beautiful! Beautiful shot of Josephine! A new clematis for me this year but she didn't do much...too young, I guess. Hope you had great fun pumpkin pickin' ;)
ReplyDeleteLynn
They are all just so spectacular, I'm without words. I do love the blooming planter it is so charming.
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible the difference in plants in different climates! Our daphne blooms in February (which is a great treat, so I'm not complaining). It is also one of the most miserable plants to grow. Does beautifully for years, then just drops dead for no reason!
ReplyDeletePS I'm also one of those who gardens very actively outdoors, and kill most anything that I try to maintain in the house!
I'm surprised to hear you aren't big on indoor plants. Houseplants are how I feed the garden bug over the winter! They do get neglected in summer, but in winter they are babied and pampered, as a substitute for the real thing. I've never smelled daphne, and it looks really pretty too.
ReplyDeleteWow! Look how many great blooms you still have! It's making me jealous. I had to rip out all of my blooms a week ago. We're having freezing temps here. Love that last picture.
