First fall planter.

I know fall isn't quite here, but like other bloggers I've really been noticing it in the air.  I did some clean up in the backyard today and while I was back there I decided I'd put together a new planter since some of the annuals were done.   I've been picking up plants here and there while I've been out and used a couple of things I already had.

Pennisetum 'Fireworks' (Thank you Janet for helping me identify it!)

Heuchera 'Beaujolais'

Winter pansy with the cutest coloring, another winter pansy with similar colors is tucked in there too.

You can see Chrysanthemum 'Bronze Spider' in bud here.

The finished product with Calibrachoa trailing in the front.

This one turned out so well I can't wait to put some more together.

  2. It really turned out so pretty. I cannot grow anything in pots but I sure think they add so much to the garden. I especially love pansies and violas in winter but the deer usually eat them here!

  3. Looks lovely! Is the heuchera beaujolais really that red, or is that a trick of the camera? Love the way the red/orange stripes on the phormium mimic the colors in the heuchera and pansy

  4. It turned out very well. I can't believe pansies are out already in your area! They are just now getting mums and I say slow down!! I don't want summer to end.

  7. Catherine, That is so pretty. And you are so ambitious! I'm afraid I must confess that the planters I put together last Spring are still together, looking great, and I'm not going to change a thing! :-) (lazy? I guess!)

My word verif: "thednede" Doesn't that sound like a Dr. Seuss word?

  13. Very nice Catherine. I am feeling the crispness in the mornings around here...so refreshing! Won't last lone here though. It will get stifling and then cooler and the yo yo will bounce for a month or so. I have been thinking of fall plants and spring bulbs!!

  16. Your container is looking great! BTW the Pennisetum looks like Fireworks, a newer variety within the Rubrum family.

  18. Susan - Beaujolais is pretty red, maybe not quite as much as the picture. Pretty close to the wine color though.

Janet - I think you might be right. That does sound familiar :) The tag is somewhere around here.

  19. Really nice! Great idea, making up special fall planters. I wish I was so motivated at this time of year, but alas, I'm not.

  21. Hi Catherine~~ Ah yes. There is something invigorating about the design process, isn't there? I found a good sized oblong galvanized container @ Goodwill the other day. Guess what I'll be doing with it. LOL. Autumn be damned. It's still gardening season. Yay!!

Love your newly fashioned container planting. The Pennisetum is fabulous isn't it? I'm going to attempt to winter-over mine by bringing it indoors. How about you? Maybe we can compare notes. I've not had luck with wintering P. rubrum.
