August Garden Bloggers Bloom Day!

I think our summer has gotten mixed up now.  It has gone from a hot and very dry summer to a cold and wet one all of a sudden.  I'm not complaining about it, it's just that it seems like we are having June weather now.  They are forecasting a "heat wave" next week so the plants and trees will need the rain we've been getting.
It's hard to believe its' mid August and time for bloom day, that also means that summer vacation is only 2 weeks longer and then it's back to school.

Rose of Sharon 'Minerva'

Echinacea 'Fragrant Angel' does have a slight fragrance, but I think 'Sundown' has a better one.

Another new Dahlia popping up from last year's Costco bag.  I've had great luck with them returning this year, better than with tubers I've spent quite a bit more money on.

Rudbeckia 'Goldstrum'

Veronica 'Lilac Fantasy' on it's second round of blooms.  I highly recommend this variety, it has reseeded a bit and the seedlings are even blooming.  The second round of blooms are just as large as the first.

Zinnia 'Apricot Blush' was one that the littlest gardener "helped" with.  She dumped the seeds into her water table.  I just picked up the plastic table and poured it into the nearest flower bed.  I see that at least one has bloomed.  It's such a pretty color.

Turtlehead (Chelone) is blooming by the pond.  I noticed the ones in deeper shade are way behind these ones.  I just planted these last year.

Phlox and Liatris, I love how this combination turned out.

Zinnia 'Green Envy' another one started from seed.  This was one I was excited to see bloom and I really like them.

Another Costco Dahlia 'Pretty Lady' is my favorite and the most photogenic.  It has by far the most flowers of all of the Dahlias.

Visit Carol at May Dreams Gardens to see her flowers and more blooms from all over the world.

  2. First, Stuart DID NOT pick your post on Blotanical. I did - think I'm being punished for not going there much lately cause it happened the other day and then it got fixed now it's back and he gets credit when I pick something. LOL Now back to more important stuff like your gorgeous gardens!
Minerva is so beautiful - mine is loaded but not blooming yet. Love your white coneflower - I'm so use to purple ones. I lost my Veronica maybe I'll try the one you recommend. I have to look up your Turtlehead (Chelone) because it looks so gorgeous I want to see more of them. And last your Dahlias look like a couple that I lost. Very nice!

  6. Beautiful blooms..love the white echinacea and the pink hydrangeas. You have a great variety of plants. We're just starting to get nice weather here in Southern Ontario - it's been cool and rainy most of the summer. Now it's almost too hot to garden. But we must.

  7. Your flowers look so healthy even if is getting to be late August. Lupines were in full bloom when I visited Minnesota four weeks ago. The climates are so different around the country. Nice photos.

  9. It is hard to believe it is August already. Our kids here in the southeast have already returned to school. They go very early but get out in mid May usually. A trade off. Enjoy the rest of your break. I'll be looking for that veronica. It is lovely and thanks for the tip!

  12. Beautiful! I can't believe you have that much color in August - it was 100 degrees here today, and the plants look it.
We are putting in a SMALL pond (like 100 gal.) and I've been showing my husband your blog as my inspiration for the pond area :)

  13. As usual, you have the most gorgeous flowers blooming in your yard! My chelone started blooming too, but I haven't posted it's photo yet. You can bet I will soon! I didn't know there were any fragrant echinaceas!

  14. Hi Catherine, I feel as though I need sunglasses! ;-) Beautiful flowers. My turtlehead has many buds, but no blossoms yet. I love these flowers! Have a great day!

  15. Ooo, I really like Veronica 'Lilac Fantasy' and Dahlia 'Pretty Woman'! So lovely! The white species of Turtlehead grows wild on our farm (and blooms very late), but so far I've managed to kill all of the pink Turtlehead that I've tried. I need to try again though, as it's so showy!

  17. Aaah! What hot colors! Especially the Rudbeckias!
Did your germinate the Dahlias? If so, do you find them easy to do so? My past three efforts have been failures. Can you share any tips?

  19. So many pretties! The dahlias are my fav of the show, because dahlias have a hard time here in my garden. My mother grew gorgeous dahlias, farther north.

  20. I have Echinacea 'Sundown' but have never noticed a fragrance. I knew you'd have plenty of pretty blooms for GBBD and you didn't disappoint.

  21. Thanks everyone for visiting! We've had a busy soccer weekend.

Chandramouli - I started the dahlias from tubers and they did come up easily. I think they really like the weather here. As long as slugs don't get them too early they do well here.
