Instagram garden.

Recently it was time to get new phones.  Normally I really don't use much besides the actual phone.  The camera on the last one wasn't very good so I got out of the habit of using it.  With my new phone I was playing around with the settings and came across an app called Instagram.  I'd heard a couple of people mention it, but I had no idea how much fun it could be.  I've been trying out different settings and learning a little more about it, but I can tell this is going to help get my creativity going.  I thought I'd try doing a post with just pictures taken using Instagram.
A closeup of a crocus in the backyard.  I have no idea what filters I've used because I was just having fun trying them out.

The pond.

The Littlest Gardener insisted we needed a bouquet and so she went around picking flowers.  I think she did a beautiful job.

Another filter.  Wonder if there's a way to find out what I used?

The Littlest Gardener posing with her flowers.

Hellebore 'Mardi Gras Double'.  I love the old fashioned look this filter gives.

The Marsh Marigold is blooming!

The moon was so bright last night.

Same picture as above using different filters and settings.

Ducks at Country Village.  The were running all over the place.

Has anyone else tried Instagram?  Any tricks?  I know that people get very into it and have followers and likes, but I'm just trying it out for the fun of it.

  1. Well I'm straight out of the dark ages as I've never heard of 'instagram' before. I do however love the photos you've taken using it. The second moonlight shot was fantastic, as was the Little Gardener shot. Wonderful stuff.

  6. Like I said on FB, my sister has an IPhone and uses Instagram a lot. Each of your fun photos are wonderful. I was going to one was my favorite over another, but each of them are so good...very interesting filters. Have fun with that app and please share more!

  8. I never tried Instagram but it does look like a fun app. I find taking photos with my phone pretty convenient on occasion, like when I am on a jobsite. It would be good too if I had kids. Your daughter's photo turned out really good.

  11. I just have an itouch (no camera). I'd get this app as I love the looks you've created. I'm guessing you copied the photos from your iphone to your computer to add to the blog. Look in the properties of each photo file and see if it lists the settings info. Right click on the file name in your computer and choose properties. Then, look in details. I works for jpgs of my photos from my camera. Hopefully, your iphone does something similar.

  13. I'm one of the minority now, who only has a flip phone, lol! I do love your Instagrams though - I can see how the app can spark your creativity.

  14. The littlest gardener with her flowers....oh, my.....that's so cute. Is that a band-aid on her finger?

I'm a big fan of the marsh marigolds but only ever see them growing/blooming in the ditches and marshy areas.

It was such fun seeing your Instagram photos. Makes me want to get rid of my old dinosaur phone and buy something new.

  17. Love your fun photos! I've been having some fun with my iPhone and some aps too. I haven't used Instagram but have downloaded some others that are easy with lots of options. I really love the photo of the bouquet, your littlest garden made a wonderful selection of flora!

I only have a few blooms right now but I did have some fun with photos of them. I also like how fast this style of editing/creating is!

  18. Hi Catherine. I'm in the minority too, with a bare-bones phone. I've got a small camera I carry in my purse but I don't do much with the filters. Your photos look great and now I'm inspired.

  22. How did I miss this post? I love all the pictures, some of them have such a romantic feeling to them. This instagram business is pretty cool, making me sad I only have a 'dumb' phone. Cheers, Jenni

  23. I haven't tried this app, actually I'm not even sure it's available for my phone, I'll have to check. I have some old photos here from when pictures really looked like that, square with the white borders, or rounded edges. Now I feel old! ;) I love how your pics turned out, especially the one with Littlest Gardener and the hellebores.

  24. Those hellebores are gorgeuous! Or is it just your fine photography? I'm looking forward to finding this app, since I mostly use my phone for pictures too.
