August Garden Bouquet of the Month.

This month was a little more of a challenge finding flowers for a bouquet.  Yes, I do have quite a bit blooming, but with many of the flowers looking a bit ragged it was hard to make myself cut the ones that are in good shape still.  Most of the bouquets that have been in our home over the last month are tiny ones that the Littlest Gardener has picked.

I was kind of laughing at myself as I carried the bouquet around, posing it in different places for the best lighting.  For this month I have rose 'Iceberg', Scabiosa, Verbena bonariensis, Liatris and Hosta and Solomon's Seal foliage.

The deck had good lighting too, except that I had to keep moving all the toys and rain boots from the background.  You just never know what you will find when walking around the backyard, it's definitely obvious that kids play back here.

The Echinaceas are one of the stars of the garden right now.  Trying to take them from the bees was a tricky job.

The Rose 'Iceberg' is blooming again.  Verbena bonariensis are dropping their little flowers onto the petals of the roses.

Liatris 'Kobold' is another favorite of the bees right now.  I just love these unusual flowers.

And in the background of my bouquet "photo shoot" was Gracie soaking up the sun.  With Cookie the rabbit making the blog the other day, I thought it was only fair that Gracie show how she spends her time outside with us.  You can also see that both the Pine tree and the big Japanese Maple are dropping needles/leaves already.

Noelle from Ramblings from a Desert Garden hosts the monthly garden bouquet each month.  Visit her to see her pretty bouquet or to join in with your own.

  1. Dear Catherine, Whatever the season, you always seem able to put together a lovely arrangement of flowers straight from your garden. I have so much enjoyed looking at them and, of course, I love your dog. Adorable!!

  4. I never do anything we are supposed to join in and do off Blotanical, don't do Wordless Wednesday, fertilizer Friday, silly Saturday, whatever. I'm probably a rogue gardener unlike you who is a sweetpea. Love the shot of your puppy lounging., take care, Gina

  5. I love the photo of Gracie lounging in the sun! My cats love the sunshine too. Your bouquet is so beautiful! I wish I could find something blooming here now, but it's just too hot and dry still! I will get my "second blooming season" around Sept/Oct. It's such a lovely time here then, and I look forward to spending more time outdoors and taking photos of my garden then!

  8. What a beautiful bouquet Catherine and I notice how very blue the sky is too. No wonder Gracie is enjoying her time in the sun! She is adorable. Many years ago I had the pincushion flowers and thought they were so cute. Your coneflowers and roses and Liatris are lovely together.

  16. Catherine, a lovely late summer bouquet! The one time I tried to grow Liatris, I had very very brown thumbs! Honestly can't say I've had much luck with Coneflowers either, maybe I should stick to vegetables! :P

  22. Hi Catherine,

I love your bouquet. I am a huge fan of Echinacea and I love the close up. Your post made me smile because I do have trouble finding the right spot and right lighting.

Your dog is just adorable. Thank you so much for participating each month :-)

  23. The varied pinks and bright whites are just gorgeous together. But as usual I'm drawn to the container! I have a soft spot for jugs, pots and vases of all shapes and sizes. The detailing on this jug really caught my eye. I have jug envy!!

  24. I love your bouquets. I am always so stingy with my garden flowers and don't wish to pluck them from their plot. I usually end up buying bouquets instead, silly, I guess.

  25. I feel like I've been chained to my computer all summer (because I have). You're inspiring me to go outside and pick a little bouquet to brighten my office.

  26. Gracie appreciates the compliments :) Good thing she soaked up the sun because it's cloudy and supposed to be in the 60's for the next 4 days.

Joy - Iceberg does have a light scent, not as strong as my others. It's so reliable and pretty that it's worth having IMO.

Matron - I will be looking for the dogblog info. Gracie was on it the last time.

  32. It seems to be the 'norm' for me anymore to be late.
You did a fine job of finding great and perfect looking flowers at this time of year. Your bouquet is lovely!
I had to laugh because you included Gracie after showing the rabbit the other day so no hurt feelings. Sounds like something I would do in all fairness - as if they had a clue what was going on. LOL

  33. Your bouquet of flowers was lovely, but it was the photo of Gracie that made my heart go pitter patter.

I enjoy seeing things like toys, tools, etc. in the background of photos. It tells me that not only is there a lovely garden, but also a family that enjoys life.

Thank you for the kind words you left on my blog.

  35. Liatris 'Kobold' has the look of something which should be waving around on a coral reef, surrounded by tiny, brightly coloured fish.

  36. Lovely bouquet. I especially like your shot of the Liatiris- the sun really lights it up.

  39. Oh. Those flowers are really lovely! I would love to have those for my birthday! The only thing is that my birthday is in the winter season. So it would be hard to get such spring season flowers. But anyways, I love the arrangements! The purple one is really cute though!
