June Garden Bloggers Bloom Day.

I almost forgot it was Bloom Day today. It seems like I was just taking pictures for May! I've had a lot of flowers that have started blooming since June began. I remember the first GBBD that I participated in was January. I had to go out examining every plant in search of a flower or two. Now there are so many I don't have room to put them all on here. I'll try to share just the most recent ones here today.

Fleabane (Erigeron speciosus) does great in full sun, it's just starting to bloom now.

Clematis 'Peppermint' seems to be liking where I planted it. It's continuing to put out new flowers.

Penstemon 'Husker Red' with Knautia behind it. I planted two last year. The other one is still just a small clump of leaves just above the soil, very strange.

Pink 'Flower Carpet' Rose has lots of roses and buds. This is a tough, disease resistant rose. It handles being cut back if it gets to big and just keeps on flowering all summer.

Oriental Poppy 'Princess Victoria Louise' just started blooming. This one caught me off guard the other day as I was backing out of my driveway. I had to stop and look at it before I went on my way. I love how inky black the centers are.

I think I did show the bud of this flower before. The world's shortest oriental lily blooming alongside Alyssum 'Tiny Tim'. The others that I planted with it are much taller and not quite ready to bloom.

Sugar Snap peas are flowering and there are peas ready to be picked as well. I've got lots of flowers on the tomatoes and peppers too.

Veronica spicata is blooming at the front of the beds. I can't remember what this one is called, but it does have the word blue in it.

Veronica 'Lilac Fantasy' is a great one that the hummingbirds love. This one has reseeded around the original plant which I didn't realize it would do. Even the babies have flowers on them. Behind them are yellow daylilies.

Yarrow (achillea) 'Gold Plate' is blooming with Salvia. These two are great during dry times like we're having. I don't think I've watered them more than once and they look great.

Clematis 'Jackmanii' has taken over the trellis again. Maybe this is why 'Nelly Moser' never has a fighting chance. I think I'll be moving her this fall. This is just the beginning of the flowers, it will be like this all summer.

Also blooming now are: Roses, Peonies, Penstemons, Lady's Mantle, Nepeta, Nigella, Breadseed Poppies, Waterlilies, Wallflowers, Deutzia, Clematis 'Ville de Lyon', Persian cornflower and more.

Coming soon: Hydrangeas, more Clematis, Bachelor Buttons, Lavatera, lavender, lilies and lots more as well.

  8. I forgot to say that the peppermint clematis was one that was not showing up. I'm glad I got to see it. I love it, and it reminds me of mine that is maroon.

  9. All just beautiful, Catherine! I really like that yellow Yarrow- I've been looking for a single colored seed packet for a while, a salmon color to be exact, but all I see are mixed! I'll have to check my nurseries this year.

  10. The 'Priness Victoria Louise' poppy is delicious looking and I think the center looks like dark chocolate. It's all looking good in your garden.

  16. How fun! Thanks for sharing your Bloom Day pics! I love your poppy, its absolutely gorgeous! I am TRYING to grow poppies this year but am realizing they are difficult to get started. At this point, I have some that are getting started, but I'm not sure I expect to see a bloom this year. Maybe next year if they get well enough established before winter. How did you start yours?

  18. Catherine you must live in the perfect growing environment. Every time I look at your blooms I am so envious. They always looks so beautiful and vibrant.

Here we are experiencing mid to high 90's and we haven't had rain for over two weeks now.

I think I'm ready to move up to your neck of the woods!

  19. What an amazing shape the Clematis 'Peppermint' has! It reminds me of kaleidoscope patterns.

  20. I was trying to count the clematis you have but can't quite figure it - more than 5? That's a lot of climbing going on! I wanted to get a Jackmanii for my daughter to climb up her playhouse but have struck out at nurseries, others got there sooner and they have been sold out. Maybe next year, it's a stunner! Saw a debate elsewhere - is knautia related to scabiosa or are they just similar-looking? Love your purple Erigeron, I just have the plain old white ones but they are totally carefree in dry spots, no water needed and cold-hardy too. I think it's interesting that your poppies and lavender (and other things, it seems) are just a few days behind mine - must be a slightly cooler micro-climate where you are.

  23. I've never seen a Clematis like that and your poppy 'Princess Victoria Louise' is the prettiest I've seen. Cool how the Veronica spires poke up in to the surrounding plants.

  24. I think you have an amazing collection of clematis too. Is your 'Josephine' blooming yet? Today I noticed mine looked wilted. uh oh. I'm not sure what that's about. Lovely June blooms for sure.

  28. Thank you everyone :)
I'm not sure how many clematis I have, around 10 I think.

Karen - Try Flower World for 'Jackmanii' they've had it both times I've been there. It would look cute on your daughter's playhouse.

Kathleen - My 'Josephine' isn't blooming now, she came with a couple of flowers and now I think it's just working on it's roots. I hope yours will be okay.

  35. We've just planted one of the new Flower Carpets - Amber - and am blown away by the color and number of blooms - even better than my old Pink and also Flower Carpet Appleblossom which were my favorites until now.
