Front yard garden in June.

I don't think I've posted many recent pictures of the front garden so I thought I would share some of the front border.  Everything looks so healthy and green since we've finally gotten some rain.

This is the same shot as the header picture, which I need to update.  I'm waiting for more flowers to bloom here first though.  In front of this area is a wide and long area of grass that I'd love to get rid of.

Looking down the border from the entry to the walkway.  This is one of the areas I'm doing some rearranging in.  It still has some work left, but so far I like how it looks.  On the right is another area of grass.  One day I'd like this to be a paver "courtyard".  For now the girls still like to have this area for wading pools and sprinklers to play in during the summer.

Something bright yellow caught my eye.  I don't think I've ever seen such a yellow spider before.  This plant was tagged as Agastache, but I think it looks more like Veronica.

About midway down.  The peonies have finished and the poppies got knocked down by the rain.

About halfway down looking back up the other direction.  Lots of flowers are full of buds here, another couple of weeks and there will be a lot of pink and purple.

I've been looking at a bed to expand in the front yard.  Hopefully sometime in the next week or two I can get started on it.  I was mentioning to my oldest Sweet Pea, that I might need to call the company that marks where the different lines come through the yard.  She said, "Let me guess, you're going to add another flower bed.  I know how you think Mom!"  Then she offered to help with the digging.

  3. Ahhh! You have a wonderful helper, Catherine. Your frontyard looks so colorful and is such a magnet!
BTW, are you sure that yellow spider is safe? Because I had/have some of those on my plants and they seem to cover the leaves with a powdery coat causing them to fall-off.

  10. The spider almost looks like a flower, probably God's design so it is well camouflaged, I would have run screaming at the sight at first glance. But then of course, I too would have had to snap a picture for my blog!

  11. How sweet that you are going to have help digging a new bed. What fun! The front yard is wonderful. No doubt anyone driving by knows a gardener lives there. Has anyone ever stopped?

  12. It is soooo beautiful! I am intrigued by that yellow spider! How neat! I would hate to show you photos of my front garden right now, or any of my garden for that matter. Everything is so shriveled up. I am anxiously awaiting Thursday in hopes that we get some rain

  14. Catherine, either you caught the "let's make another bed here" disease from me - or, I caught it from you. Either way, we're soul mates. Your front gardens are superb and a real inspiration.

  18. Isn't it just the sweetest when the kids offer to help? Makes me feel all warm and tingly! We had a spider like that, it was about the size of a wood tick. Also some beautiful turquoise bugs of some sort. Lovely colors. I love the look of your garden that you say needs work. Of course I'm never satisfied with the finished product either. I don't think a garden can ever truly be finished anyway...

  19. Thank you for all of your nice comments! I only stayed to take 2 pictures of the yellow spider, that was enough for me :) I think it is a crab spider.

Tina - Mostly just my neighbors comment on my garden, but every so often I see people on walks stopping and pointing at things.

  20. I think it looks great, your frontyard! Less grassareas on the front I'd also like to have. I'm looking forward to see what you'r going to do there. Great to have a helping hand offered like that. Have a nice day / gittan

  21. Everything looks so lush and beautiful. That spider was so bright I saw him in the next picture too.
I worked outside all day today then off to get the boys to stay for 3 days and go to Bible School at Great Grandmas church. If this weather stays this nice I'll be able to work out while they're gone - so if ya don't see me . . .
Your little girl does know you doesn't she. Nice of her to offer to dive right in. Can I borrow her for a while?

  23. I'm glad I'm not the only one with expanding borders.

I think you are right that plant looks very like a Veronica to me.

  25. Your front yard looks very nice. Isn't fun to plan a new bed. And the yellow spider is great. I haven't seen any of those for a while. They can be easy to miss especially if they decide to hang out in a yellow center.
