Giving thanks.

The path in November
The path in June
Waking up to the kids telling us to look outside it was snowing on Thanksgiving morning was definitely a reminder of all I have to be thankful for.  A healthy family, great friends, a warm house, food to eat and the surprises nature gives us.  Winter is still a month away and yet we are on our fifth day of snow.  Luckily the weather is warming a bit and the roads should be safe for traveling.  We will be going to my sister's home for dinner where we'll see an uncle and cousins and their families that we don't get to see that often.

I'm also thankful for all the friends I've made through blogging.  I'm thankful for all I've learned both on your blogs or comments or emails that have been left for me.  So many days I've read a blog that had a quote or poem or picture on it that changed my perspective on how I was feeling that day.  Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving today or not I hope you have a great day and find something extra to be thankful for.

Thank you!

  1. I love seeing your garden in June and today! Have a safe trip to see family and enjoy your Thanksgiving day! If you watch the Seahawks on Sunday, I will be there with my hat, boots, gloves coat & scarf celebrating my birthday! Hugs.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving Catherine to you and your family.

Love your path in both seasons. What a difference a few months makes and a nice frosting of snow.

I'm so glad you are still blogging. I always enjoy seeing and reading about what is going on in your gardens and with your family.

  4. Hi Catherine - my turn to pop on over and visit you! I cannot get over the difference between the summer and winter pictures of your garden - both so very beautiful, yet so very, very different. And it amazes me how resilient your gardens are to those extreme conditions, when, come springtime, everything bursts into bloom once again and all evidence of the winter is gone in a blink (or, so it seems from here!)

I trust you and your immediate family enjoyed your dinner with your sister and greater family. I loved what you have to say about all the things you are grateful for. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving in SA (I assume it is very much an American thing?), but it seems to me to be a great idea! More countries should adopt the practice.

  8. I love comparing the two photos Catherine. The snow on the birdhouse is so pretty but I'm glad the roads will be safe enough to travel on. Hope you and your family have a wonderful celebration.

  10. Happy Thanksgiving, Catherine! I bet your little gardeners are happy about the snow.
When we got snow last winter, it was so fun watching the expressions of the kids coming out of school and some seeing it for the first time.
    Enjoy the holiday!

  13. Hi Catherine, What a comparison (and contrast!!) with your photos. Both beautiful. Isn't it wonderful to be able to appreciate ALL the seasons as they make their way through the bit of earth we tend? Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. May your travels be safe.

  15. That was lovely. We are so lucky to live in this beautiful part of the world. The snow is a bit of a shock, but it won't last long and we'll be back in the rain before we know it!

  16. I love my garden when it snows. None here yet, though there has been quite a lot further north.

There is much to be thankful for and I agree with your comment about blogs sometimes changing our perspective :)

  19. Apart from the colour, the perfume, the form, the surprises; what I love most about the garden is that it changes: it changes throughout the day with the different lights, throughout the seasons - the different flowers, colours, insects present; it changes from its inception through the years as every plant grows and demands it own space. Seasonality is what I would like to call my nursery, should I ever have one. Christina ps continue enjoying your thanksgiving weekend

  29. Five days of snow? No wonder you have nothing blooming, girl. We only had two nights below freezing and several near misses--dodged the bullet you could say.

Despite the chill your garden looks as beautiful as ever. I love the side-by-side photos. I know, I know I need to live in the moment but oh how I long for June again!
