Meeting Rain Gardener.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting another Pacific Northwest gardener. Linda (Rain Gardener) of Gardening by Trial and Error drove all the way here (about 3 hours!) to visit the Littlest Gardener and I. We had been trying to set up this visit for many months. In fact so many months ago we started planning that the driving directions I gave her were no longer good. Unfortunately we didn't figure that out until after she got lost trying to follow the directions I had given her.
I had a feeling from our interactions through blogging and emailing that conversation would be easy with her, and I was right. We talked about gardening, blogging and family for a good 2 hours. Originally we had planned to possibly visit a nursery, but the weather was cool and rainy so instead this time we just talked.
We also had our very own plant swap. Each of us had admired plants on each others blogs and this was the perfect way to be able to dig up some plants and share our seeds with each other.

Linda brought me Siberian Irises, Wild Iris, Yellow flag iris and a Saxifraga 'London Pride'. She was so thoughtful and even brought my girls their own Sedums because she knows they like to help in the garden. I'm very excited to find places for all of them in my garden.

She also brought lots of seeds and made this pretty card. I love how she printed pictures of the flowers to put on the envelopes. I plan to winter sow all but the Poppies this weekend. Those I will save for a little longer and just direct sow them.

It's been so much fun getting to know other gardeners through blogging and I've been even luckier to actually get to meet some in person. Hopefully Linda will forgive my old and out of date directions and visit with us another time when there is more going on in my yard.

  8. I agree with Noelle - gardeners usually have an instant bond with one another. So great that Linda could visit with you and the littlest gardener. What fun to share plants and seeds. Isn't blogging a blessing to be able to visit and meet people from all over?

  10. I have met up with a few bloggers, and it is a real treat. Something about meeting a person whom you share so much, just makes it more wonderful.

What a great collection of seeds. I have never seen Peony Poppies. Please show us photos of them when they bloom this summer. I am in love with them. Nuts about any Poppy, and these are super gorgeous.

  12. Oh ~ I'm SO jealous. I'd love to meet the two of you. Fun times. Cute seed packets too. Linda was creative! Glad you two could connect ~ sounds like it was quite a while in the making...

I was coming over to comment on your "spikes" post from yesterday. I read it then but something happened and I didn't get a chance to comment. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed seeing all your photos and that I like that shape too!

What fun to meet your blogger friend. Those plants are all choice plants and will do great around your small pond!
Bluebird Meadows is a blog I have been following for a year, 6 months ago I found out her mother lives down the hill on our road. Small world.

  20. Meeting other bloggers is great. I did visit a blogfriend early Januari and even if there where absolutely nothing to see in her garden, becaurse of the snow, we still had a wonderful time just talking. Now I long for apring to come and then I hope that she'll get here AND I'm anxious to visit her again. We live only a half hours drive from each other.

  25. That is very special to get to meet someone you have been "conversing" with on-line, and she sounds so sweet. I love her idea of printing out photos for the seed. Very clever!
Happy gardening with your new acquisitions!

  26. I bet that was a lot of fun. I share with others how I wonder if our friendships would work if we lived next door, but we are all a creative bunch that loves to see things grow. It was nice to hear your fellowship was so rewarding.

  27. That is too sweet! Love her gifts and I'm guessing you are being too modest to mention it but gave her a lot of nifty stuff in return. Here's to face-to-face meet-ups, they really make life richer and more connected, as you say.
