Snow clouds? and Thank you!

The skies here during the sunset caught my eye tonight (or should I say late afternoon since it was around 4:30 pm). It was like a pink and purple leopard print across the sky. We have a chance of snow predicted for tomorrow, and all day my girls have been asking if we thought it would snow. Often times the clouds just look like "snow clouds" but today for most of the day it was clear blue without a cloud in sight. Thinking about the clouds made me remember learning about the different types of clouds when I was in school and how fascinated I was with them. I still love looking at the clouds now, to me there's nothing prettier than big fluffy cumulus clouds on a blue sky. I found an interesting website that shows different types of clouds and the possible weather that could be forecasted by them.

So what's your opinion? Stratocumulus? I have no idea, but it sure was a pretty sky. Hopefully we'll see some snowflakes falling when we wake up.

Something else I could never have forecast were all the friends I'd meet through blogging. Recently I won a giveaway from Darla of More Family and Flowers. The package arrived yesterday full of lots of goodies. Darla still has lots blooming in her Florida garden so if you need a flower fix, go visit her.

The Littlest Gardener couldn't wait to put on her shirt that Darla made. She made one for the Muscle too!

It felt like Christmas going through all the treats. Thank you Darla!

And a special message to Darla:

  1. Catherine, great link. I'm bookmarking it for reference, thanks. I think it might be Altocumulus or Altocumulus perlucidus ... but I'm confused...

Amazing sunset and great stuff from Darla!

  5. This is just the happiest post, Catherine! Darla is a sweetheart and how amazing are the friends made through blogging? I never would have imagined that when I starting out writing posts. The Muscle, HA. The littlest gardener is so adorable, I can see Darla dripping with tears too. The sky is beautiful, I love the leopard analogy! :-)

  7. What a great package you got. Love the shirt on The Littlest Gardener. Cute video too.
Your sky shot it gorgeous. I miss seeing beautiful skies up here in the woods. Haven't seen a sunrise or sunset in years unless I go down below.
I hope you get some snow for the girls to play in. I know, as kids we always loved it and I think we got more snow here back then. I know there were more sleds around then too.

  8. Catherine, I tell you that Darla! She is one of the sweetest, most giving people I've ever "met." She blessed me with flower seeds from her garden last spring, just to be nice. And then two Peace sign T-Shirts she said were prototypes but hello, they were perfect. You definitely hit the jackpot. I love the T-shirts she specially designed. ... Beautiful sky photo. Any snow yet? Friday night was a nightmare here. Freezing rain. Awful stuff. The paper said there were around 70 crashes. Thank God no one was seriously injured. It's "warmed" now to a balmy 35 degrees. I'll have to go out and assess the damage. I'm sure there will be plant casualties. How about you?

  11. It started snowing just a little while ago, not sure if it will accumulate but it looks pretty.

    Darla - Thanks again :)

Grace - I already see things I planted at the beginning of fall that I'm sure are dead :( Who knew it would get this cold this early. Glad we missed that storm, it's scary to have to drive in that type of weather.

  14. Hi Catherine - What a lovely sky shot! I saw that polka-dot sunset too but didn't think of leopard, good one. My daughter is studying weather in 1st grade and clouds have been a fun focus. I don't get the mixed layers too well, but have learned stratus, cumulus and cirrus pretty much! I agree, it's astonishing how many fun friendships have been made possible by this medium. Your Darla package looks amazing and your daughter is the cutest thing! No snow here yet but the kids can keep hoping, right?

  22. Hi Catherine,
Your pink clouds are beautiful. Here, we have stormy thunderheads in the summer and regular winter clouds this time of year.

What a thoughtful gift. I am also pleasantly surprised at how many nice friends I have made since blogging - including you :0)
