Have a Merry Christmas!

We'll be busy for the next several days celebrating Christmas with our family, but I wanted to say Merry Christmas to all of my blogging friends!
I thought I'd share a few of our decorations.

The tall snowman was given to us by my Dad years ago. He has given my sisters and I a new Christmas decoration for our homes each year. The winter planter was done a few days before the freezing weather, not much happening with it now. This time I added more perennials and a dwarf Pieris in this shady porch area.

I had fun trying out the settings to figure out which took the best night time pictures and showed the actual lights instead of a blur. Now I have no idea which setting ended up working, oh well...

A view of the tree looking in through the front window. I always go outside and see what it looks like. Each year my Mom buys each of her grankids a new ornament. I also buy the girls a new one each year, when they are older they will already have lots of ornaments to decorate their own tree with.

I won't be around very much for the next week between the winter break from school and our indoor project. We will be re-tiling the shower in one of the bathrooms. Fingers crossed this will be our first project without any complications.
Those of you with snow, send some our way. I'm being held responsible for the lack of snow by my girls. Apparently me buying toboggans this year is the reason it hasn't snowed in the Seattle area yet.
This was (and is) one of my favorite Christmas songs and reminds me of my sisters and I gathering around the TV to watch "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" when we were growing up.
Have a Holly Jolly Christmas!

  5. Home remodeling project without complications, hahahahaha...oh, sorry. We have yet to see that happen at our place. Our current (for the last year or so) project is re-tiling the fireplace.

I'll send 50 truckloads of snow from Alaska!

That Christmas tree looks great! Looks a lot lot lot lot.... lot better than the stupid tree that they kept in our office for decorating the reception!

  12. Hi Catherine~~ Everything looks so festive! Even without the snow! At first glance, the photo of your tree from outside had me perplexed. I thought Hmm... that is an interesting way to string the lights--in a circle like the prison fences with the curled barbed wire on the top. As I read your caption, it all became clear. I think many of us will be on blog-hiatus for a few days. Merry Christmas to you and your sweet family. It's been a real joy getting to know you.

  27. Best of luck with that tiling project Catherine. I have a couple of those to tackle myself but no way over the holidays! I think you're brave. Your tree and outdoor lights look great. I always have to use a tripod and timer to get night photos to turn out, otherwise the shutter speed is so slow the pictures come out blurry. Whatever setting you ended up on, worked! :-)
Merry Christmas to you and your family, I hope it's a wonderful time together.

  33. Hi Catherine,
Thanks for stopping by today. Merry Christmas to you and your family, as well. I hope your tiling goes well. Your photos did turn out great. That sounds like something I would do, in forgetting which setting I used for the best photo. I love the photo of the inside from outside. I like your china cabinet.

  41. Oh my can I be 3 days late? I can't go without hoping you, Sweet Pea, The Littlest Gardener and the Muscle a very Merry Christmas and will have a wonderful New Year.
It has been the greatest of fun getting to know you, your family and of course your garden since I started blogging.
Knock on wood I'm still well and excited to come up after the first of the year and bring your (probably not so great looking now) goodies I have for you.

  42. A little late here but hope you had a wonderful holiday with the family. Your tree and decorations are so lovely, and you have so many nice traditions. Your kids are lucky to grow up with such a great mom. :) All the best to you in the New Year, and Burl Ives is my favorite!

  43. I hope your tiling goes well. Your decorations are great and I am so glad you are capable of keeping the weather at bay. If only, right? I often carry along an umbrella because it is the surest way to keep the rain from falling. I can also make it rain by planning an outdoor party without a tent. Aren't we something. Happy New year to you and your family.
