Spoke too soon I guess.

Just two days ago I posted about all the plants starting to show up.  I was feeling confidant spring was on its way.  I guess I spoke a little too soon.  When I let our dog out this morning I saw white.
I don't remember hearing anything on the weather about this.  When I went outside I heard the Stellar's Jays and chickadees loudly calling in the trees.   Maybe they were surprised too.
One of the regulars at a feeder.  We have juncos here all day no matter what the weather is.
My winter sowing really does look like winter!
The skies are beginning to clear now, and the snow is starting to melt.  Hopefully this will be the last of our snow!
One good part about snow in the morning, it's a sure way to get my usually hard to wake daughter to jump excitedly out of bed on a school morning.

  1. Good morning. I stumbled onto your site from another blog. I'm glad I found you, you have a lovely site. We've had lots of snow here this year. We are in a thaw now and it's melting but leaving so much mud. I enjoyed the previous post about familiar sounds. I have favorites, the birds, the wind rustling the leaves, the creaking of the old barns. At night I love the coyotes, the owls and the far distant trains.

  2. This is a surprise! We didn't have anything here, on the Peninsula! We had morning frost for a couple of days last week, but snow....? Please, don't send it our way!

  3. Holy Cow, I bet that was a surprise!

  4. Marnie - Thanks so much for visiting. How lucky to hear owl and coyotes! I hope all this snow everywhere starts to go so we can all enjoy our gardens! By the way, I enjoyed reading your blog too!

Tatyana - Isn't that strange. Last time I think it was worse down there. They say there could be some more this week. I hope not!

Darla - Yes it was! It's mostly gone, but they are saying we could get more.

  5. Wasn't that crazy this morning? I can't say I was delighted but at least we have sunshine. How is the winter sowing going? And what's that tree behind the Junco? It has great color.

  6. It was quite a shocker! We have snow covered snowdrops!

  7. Melanthia - Very surprising! I actually just checked my winter sowing and one little sprout has started. At least there is a spot of green! That tree is our neighbors weeping willow. It has grown really fast, it's a pretty tree, but they planted it right next to our trees and I'm hoping it doesn't take over everything.

Curmudgeon - They probably look pretty. Glad it's melting though!

Warm wishes - I posted some tulip images today.

  9. That is just all a part of the 10% chance of precipitation that they tell you, and then you end up sweeping or shoveling it up :)

  10. Oh how I envy you.... as much as it would be a shock for you we are still buried beneath at least two feet of snow - and that's after the much anticipated 'melt' that really hasn't materialized as of yet. Thanks for dropping by my blog, good luck with the Helleborus 'Blue Lady'

  11. We're supposed to get some white stuff too- it is really cold. I managed to sow some carrots in the cold frame today and had to get inside, my fingers bright red!

  12. It is quite pretty in its own way-on the blogs:) Is your daughter like my son? He jumps out of bed to see if school is cancelled:) then goes and plays in the snow.

  13. Great pictures. Winter isn't over until it's over, and that was a lovely bit of snow you had overnight. Maybe it's just what your winter sown seeds needed too. ;-)

I enjoy reading about your gardens from your part of the country.

It seemed to be turning cooler here today so maybe we're in for another tad of cold weather ourselves.

Have a nice evening ~ FlowerLady

  14. Saw your message before reading your post. Yeah, what a surprise! Someone mentioned the possiblity of snow last night but I didn't really think it would happen, after our sunny weekend! Duh, I should be used to this by now, it seems like it almost always happens at least once in late-ish winter. Love the feeding junco!

  15. Let's try this again :) too many typos.

Bren - We are a little on the wimpy side here. We just aren't used to getting snow as often as we have this winter. Loved your tulips.

Lona - Isn't that so true. Luckily it melted by the middle of the day, so no shoveling.

Teza- I'm almost embarrassed to complain about this little snow, but we are kinda wimpy here :) I'm going to get those hellebores tomorrow!

Tessa - Maybe it's moving south, hope not. It was cold and I did plant my primroses finally anyway and am trying lettuce indoors. Good for you to get out in and get some work done :) We need some carrot help here. Never much luck.

Tina - Yes, my daughter jumps out to find if school was cancelled. They had it today though.

FlowerLady - I hope you don't get too cold there, I know it's hard on the plants there. I did check my winter sowing and I did see a sprout, maybe it did help :)

Karen - I know the weather was nice and I really was surprised this morning. I guess we still could get it again, but hoping not.

  16. Beautiful photos. We're supposed to get snow down here in the Willamette Valley. It's already getting cold. This is some winter.

  17. flowrgirl1 - It is pretty I must admit :)

Grace - Thanks. There sure has been a lot of snow this winter. Maybe the snow will skip you, so you can get your new plants in!

  18. Doesn't "old man winter" always have a surprise up his sleeve? Here in Colorado, it's snowed on Mother's Day before (by then, we are truly sick of it!) I hope that's the last of it for you since you have so many plants popping up.

  19. Pictures of the snow are so beautiful. I hear we may have more opportunities yet. Perhaps Punxsutawney Phil knows best...(NOOOOOO, say it isn't so!)

  20. I just love waking up in a morning and finding unexpected snow - mind you, I love waking up in a morning and finding any sort of snow!
    Your photos are beautiful.
You are way ahead of me in planting -I'm still at the drooling over catalogues stage!
Enjoy your day - snowy or not!

  21. The flower garden in front of your pretty home looks a real treat. Snowman had a change of heart and came back. This was probably just to tease you. I am looking forward seeing all the plants flourishing you have freshly planted. what a good choice to plant pear trees. It is always so nice to have your own fruit which your daughters can pick with delight. Thank you to leave me a comment.

  23. Kathleen - He sure does, in fact it's snowing again as I type! Mother's Day, that would be late! Hope that doesn't happen again.

Aerie-el - Maybe Phil does, it's snowing now. Isn't it crazy the amount of times it's snowed this winter?

Nutty Gnome - Thanks. I'm having such a hard time not planting. I just want to dig! I just got a new catalogue and they are so tempting!

Titania - Thank you. I'm hoping we get lots of fruit. It's fun to grow it in your own yard. I enjoyed your blog and thanks for visiting me :)

    lili1 1 - It's snowing again. I hope it's warm where you are!

  24. Hi there. Are the winter sown trays aluminum on top? I've never tried that kind of container.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Monica- Hi! No they are actually the clear plastic. They do look aluminum in that picture though. This is my first year trying. Thanks for visiting.

  26. OH No! I'm not saying anything else about snow or we'll get some. We have until the middle of April before we pass the point of no snow normally. There was that one year we had a freak snow in May. I hope your plants will be ok. It can nip the edges and let's just hope it didn't. Maybe the snow insulated it from the cold in some way.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well, it looks pretty anyway! Still, I'd want it to go away too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, it's that time of year, when we are teased by spring like weather, and then winter says, "Hey, it's still my turn!"

    That snow sure is pretty!
