Fertilizer Friday, how time flies!

Every time Friday is here I can't believe another week is over, time just flies by so fast.  I can't believe it's already the middle of July.  It seems like I was just out looking for signs of growth in the garden and now it's in full bloom.
Here is some of what's happening today in the garden:

This container is making me sad.  I planted it two months ago in Miracle Gro soil, it's gets watered and part sun.  Why won't these plants grow?  It's driving me crazy.

Every time the littlest gardener comes outside with me, and I do mean every time, she picks a cute little bouquet.  She hands them to me and each time says, "These are for your Mother's Day."  We've got little bouquets all over now.  I think she makes some great combinations.

I love Liatris 'Kobold' and so do the bees.  I moved this one a few months ago to the butterfly garden, I think it likes all the new soil.

Echinacea 'Green Envy' in full bloom.  It's really pretty I think.

The window boxes under the dining room window have gone a little crazy.  We had a lot of wind a couple of weeks ago and it blew the Snapdragons down.  Now they hang over and bloom up like the petunias.  These planters are above the Daphne 'Summer Ice' and between the Daphne and the petunias it smell so good.

The Water Hyacinth I showed in yesterday's post bloomed overnight.  Isn't it beautiful?!  Two have bloomed and I'm so happy about it.

I hope next Friday doesn't sneak up as fast!
We are working on our deck this weekend, a pretty big project, so I may not be around a lot.  Hopefully the weather will continue to hold so we can get it all finished.

The Water Hyacinths flowers are beautiful -- the color and sheen reminds me of Delphiniums.

  7. Such an array of beautiful flowers. The " green envy" is so interesting, with long petals, striking similar to sunflower. Are they cousins?

  13. Catherine, the Liatris is very dramatic. "Green envy" is really nice (there's a zinnia by that name, too).

  15. Your window boxes are so full and pretty.I have a stupid question can you save seed from the nicotina plants. I see you have them too. Is the seed in the little pockets from where the blooms falls from? I really like the red one and would like to save some seeds if I cannot over winter it. I have just so much space for all of those plants I would like to keep ;-) The bee on the pretty Liatris is such a good shot.Sigh; just another plant I have no luck with.

  17. Hi Catherine~~ Happy Mother's Day! Does it get any sweeter than this? What a little angel you have in your midst.

I'm green with envy over 'Green Envy' Echinacea. What a fabulous flower. Another one to add to the wish list.

As I recall from my nursery employee stint, there are growers who apply growth regulators to plants to keep them small and prolong shelf life. [A dastardly tactic, I think.] This could be what's happening with your stalled plants. I use Miracle Gro potting soil too and can vouch for its efficacy. Apparently the growth regulators don't last too long so if this is indeed what is causing the stall, it shouldn't be too much longer before it will no longer have an effect.

If you ask me, the time is sprinting by way too fast! :)

  22. Okay, you've got some photos there that need to be entered into a contest. My goodness, the one of little gardener holding the bouquet is just about as perfect as it gets. The little bit of dirt under her finger nail proves that she is indeed a little gardener. Also your window boxes, gorgeous. And....grow little container plants, grow!

  25. Add me to the list of fans of Green Envy. We were nursery hopping recently in Spokane and saw it but it wasn't in bloom. I wanted to see what it looked like. Another great one is Tomato Soup. Your garden is doing very well right now.

  26. Those window boxes under the dining room window are just breathtaking!
They certainly make up for the one container that isn't doing well. (and don't we ALL have at least one like that; one that for some reason isn't performing well? I know I do.)
